Attempted Murder on Raju Nishad During Constitution March in Prayagraj

Lalapur, Prayagraj — A shocking incident occurred in Bhilor village under Lalapur police station in Prayagraj district, where social activist Raju Nishad was brutally attacked during a Constitution March (Samvidhan Padayatra) organized under the banner of Dr. Ambedkar Welfare Network (DAWN) on Wednesday, October 29, around 2:30 PM.

The march was being held to honor and spread awareness about the Indian Constitution, with women leading the procession followed by men chanting slogans such as “Long Live the Indian Constitution.”

According to reports, when the procession reached near Raju Nishad’s residence, his 13-year-old son, Shiva, was standing at the door. At that moment, Puttun Singh, son of Deobhai Singh, along with Balli Singh and Dhanne Singh alias Shivansh Singh, all residents of the same village, allegedly attacked Shiva. Seeing his son being beaten, Raju Nishad rushed to intervene. The accused, reportedly acting together, verbally abused and physically attacked Raju Nishad using sticks and a sickle (hansua), causing severe head injuries. The attackers also threatened to kill him.

The incident gained attention after it was highlighted on social media, prompting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yamunapar to take cognizance. Subsequently, an FIR No. 79/2025 was registered at Lalapur Police Station at 7:40 PM the same evening.

Villagers have alleged that the accused individuals dominate the area with power, land ownership, and influence, leaving no public passage for others. Locals claim that the perpetrators have repeatedly harassed and assaulted residents over land and access routes, and most incidents previously ended in forced settlements.

However, this time, due to active intervention by Dr. Ambedkar Welfare Network (DAWN) and direct attention from the DSP Yamunapar, a case has been officially registered, giving hope for justice to the marginalized villagers.
