India’s biggest domestic carrier, IndiGo, is currently struggling with a severe operational crisis. In the past week alone, the airline has cancelled more than 4,500 flights, causing widespread inconvenience to lakhs of passengers. From delays and last-minute cancellations to refund issues and baggage complaints — customer grievances have been flooding social media and helplines nonstop.
What’s the Entire Issue?
Over the last few days, several IndiGo routes have experienced large-scale flight cancellations or long delays. While the airline has cited “crew shortage and scheduling constraints” as the main reasons, passengers have called it a case of clear mismanagement.
According to sources, lack of available crew and poor planning by the operations team triggered a chain reaction that disrupted the airline’s entire network.
DGCA Takes Strict Action
As the situation worsened, the aviation regulator DGCA issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo’s CEO and top management.
The notice demands answers to key questions:
- Why were so many flights cancelled in such a short time?
- Why were passengers not informed in advance?
- Why were refunds, compensation, and assistance delayed?
The DGCA has warned that strict action may follow if IndiGo fails to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Passengers Face Major Troubles
The sudden cancellations have left passengers struggling with multiple issues:
- Pre-booked tickets cancelled without warning
- Hours of waiting at airports
- Delayed refunds
- Missed connecting flights
- Rising cases of baggage mishandling
Several travellers complained that customer support was either unavailable or extremely slow, worsening the crisis.
IndiGo’s Response
IndiGo has issued a statement saying it is working to stabilise operations. The airline claims it is offering rebooking, refunds, and travel credit options to affected passengers.
However, many travellers say the process is slow and unresponsive.
Will the Situation Improve Soon?
With increased DGCA monitoring and pressure on the airline, it is expected that IndiGo will take stronger corrective steps to restore normal scheduling in the coming days.
For now, passengers are advised to:
- Check flight status before leaving for the airport
- Keep an eye on SMS/Email updates
- Consider alternative travel options if necessary
