In a tragic incident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, at least six people lost their lives when a speeding container truck collided with passengers who had stepped off a bus early Saturday morning. Several others were also injured in the mishap.
According to police, the private bus was travelling from Delhi to Kanpur when it stopped on the expressway outside the designated “green zone” area to allow passengers to relieve themselves. At around 2:45 am near Milestone 88 in the Surir police station area, a fast-moving container struck the bus from behind and then ran over the passengers standing by the roadside, resulting in the deaths.
The deceased have been identified from various districts including Auraiya, Basti, Kannauj and Delhi, while authorities continue efforts to identify the remaining victims. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals and are receiving medical care.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken immediate cognisance of the accident and expressed deep grief over the loss of lives. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and directed senior officials to reach the accident site without delay. The CM has instructed that relief and rescue operations be expedited to ensure all necessary help reaches those affected.
Officials have also been advised to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured and ensure there is no lapse in care during the ongoing relief efforts. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the container driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the collision.
