Senior Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived in Guwahati on 19 February 2026 for a two-day visit to Assam. The visit is considered significant as the party intensifies its preparations ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
She began her tour by offering prayers at the renowned Kamakhya Temple, one of the most revered Shakti Peeths in India. The temple, located on Nilachal Hill, holds immense religious importance and attracts devotees from across the country. Her visit to the temple is seen as both a spiritual gesture and an outreach to the people of the state.
Following the temple visit, Priyanka Gandhi proceeded to Rajiv Bhawan, the headquarters of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. There, she is scheduled to hold a series of screening meetings with senior party leaders, district representatives, and block-level officials.
The meetings will focus on candidate selection, booth-level strengthening, and overall election strategy. Party sources indicate that this structured screening process aims to ensure transparency and strengthen grassroots coordination before the elections.
Political observers believe that the visit is intended to energize party workers, assess ground realities, and finalize strategies to improve the Congress party’s performance in the state.
