Lucknow: The government led by Yogi Adityanath has presented its 10th Budget for the financial year 2026–27 in the State Assembly. This is the final full budget of the government’s second term, making it politically and economically significant ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The government has described the budget as development-oriented and focused on public welfare.
The budget was presented in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly by Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna. While presenting the budget, he stated that it would play a crucial role in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as one of India’s leading economies. He emphasized that the interests of all sections of society have been taken into account.
Budget Size and Key Priorities
The total outlay of the 2026–27 budget is estimated to be over ₹9 lakh crore, making it larger than the previous fiscal year’s allocation. The government has focused on infrastructure development, social welfare, agriculture, industrial growth, and balanced development of both rural and urban areas.
Special Emphasis on Women Empowerment
Women empowerment remains a major highlight of the budget. The government has proposed strengthening self-help groups, enhancing pension schemes, and introducing incentive programs for meritorious girl students. The objective is to increase women’s economic participation and promote financial independence.
Youth and Education Initiatives
The budget includes expansion of skill development programs, promotion of digital education, and employment-oriented training initiatives for youth. Proposals such as scooter distribution for meritorious female students and technical assistance for students have been included. There are also indications of improvements in honorarium provisions for education volunteers.
Infrastructure and Investment Push
Significant allocations have been made for roads, bridges, expressways, industrial corridors, and urban development projects. Special development plans have been announced for regions such as Purvanchal and Bundelkhand. The government has reiterated its commitment to attracting investment and generating employment opportunities across the state.
Agriculture and Rural Development
The agriculture sector has been strengthened through provisions for irrigation projects, storage facilities, farm mechanization, and farmer welfare schemes. The budget also emphasizes rural infrastructure development and promotion of small-scale industries to boost the rural economy.
Political Significance
As this is the last full budget before the 2027 Assembly elections, it is being seen as a crucial document reflecting the government’s policy priorities. With a strong focus on farmers, women, youth, and infrastructure, the government aims to accelerate economic growth and expand social welfare coverage in the state.
Further details regarding departmental allocations and implementation strategies are expected to emerge during discussions in the Assembly in the coming days.
