BSP Supremo Reacts During Budget Session, Calls for Clarity on India–US Tariff Decision

New Delhi.
During the presentation of the Union Budget in Parliament, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national president Mayawati shared her views regarding recent developments between India and the United States. In a post on social media, she referred to reports suggesting that the United States has imposed an 18 percent tariff on India following a bilateral agreement concluded with multiple conditions.

She stated that, due to the lack of complete and detailed information on the matter, making any immediate assessment would be premature. According to her, the real impact of such an international agreement can only be properly understood after its implementation on the ground.

The BSP supremo emphasized that only after practical execution would it become clear how this decision affects the country, particularly the interests of Bahujans, the poor, labourers, farmers, women, and other vulnerable sections of society.

She further added that it would have been more appropriate if the government had provided a detailed explanation on this issue during the ongoing Parliament session. This, she said, would have ensured transparency and enabled the public to receive accurate and complete information.

Mayawati also indicated that international economic decisions should not be evaluated merely on the basis of agreements, but on their actual social and economic impact, especially when they are likely to influence the lives of weaker and marginalized communities.
