Congress to Gherao Uttar Pradesh Assembly in Lucknow on February 17 Over MNREGA Issue

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress has announced that it will gherao the State Assembly on February 17 in protest over issues related to MNREGA and rural employment. The party stated that the demonstration is aimed at raising concerns about alleged changes affecting the implementation of the rural job guarantee scheme.

According to Congress leaders, recent developments in the execution of MNREGA have impacted employment opportunities in rural areas. The party claims that workers are facing difficulties in getting timely work and payments. As part of its statewide campaign titled “Save MNREGA,” the Congress has been organizing public meetings, village outreach programs, and awareness drives.

Party leaders said that workers and office bearers from various districts will gather in Lucknow on February 17 to stage a peaceful protest outside the Assembly. The Congress has maintained that the demonstration will follow democratic and lawful methods, urging the government to ensure effective implementation of MNREGA in its original spirit.

State Congress leaders also indicated that the protest could be intensified if their demands are not addressed. Meanwhile, the administration is expected to make necessary security and traffic arrangements in view of the proposed gathering.

The protest is likely to add momentum to the ongoing political discourse in the state, as opposition parties continue to raise questions about employment and rural development policies.
