Kathmandu, Nepal — 5 September 2025
A vehicle associated with Jhupa Chand Thakuri, a long-time political member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), was burned in Kathmandu on 5 September 2025, according to his family.
The incident occurred while Thakuri was attending a party meeting.
Thakuri has been associated with the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) since approximately January 2002 and has served as a Ward Member. He has also participated in political and social activities in his community.
His son, Surendra Kumar Chand, said that the family believes the incident was connected to the hostility surrounding his father’s political background and the unrest following the Gen Z movement.
The family says it has news reports and other supporting material concerning the vehicle-burning incident.
The family has expressed concern that the incident was part of a broader pattern of threats and hostility directed toward Thakuri and his family.
The family says that relevant police and media material can be provided to authorities if required.
