Golden Das on Babasaheb’s Path: Announces ‘Manusmriti Burning’ on April 14, Political Heat Rises

Bihar:
Golden Das, a leader known for his outspoken style in the politics of Bihar as well as Uttar Pradesh, has made a major announcement that has intensified political activity. He has declared that on April 14—Ambedkar Jayanti—he will burn the Manusmriti. Following this statement, debates have erupted from political circles to social media.

What is the issue?

Golden Das says that he is taking this step to carry forward the unfinished mission of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. According to him, “The ideology that suppressed the Bahujan society for centuries must be opposed.” He described this act not merely as a symbolic protest, but as part of a larger social message.

A step rooted in history

The idea of burning the Manusmriti is not new. During the Mahad Satyagraha on December 25, 1927, Dr. Ambedkar publicly burned the Manusmriti, calling it a symbol of social inequality and discrimination.
Golden Das’s announcement recalls that historic event.

Why April 14?

According to experts, organizing such a program on Ambedkar Jayanti carries a clear political and social message. On one hand, there is the Constitution of India, which speaks of equality and rights; on the other, there are traditions being opposed.
Through this program, Golden Das aims to openly highlight this ideological conflict.

What did Golden Das say?

Golden Das stated:
“We are soldiers of Babasaheb. We cannot accept any book that does not consider us human. On April 14, there will not only be smoke, but also a message of change.”

Administrative and political reactions

Following this announcement, the administration has become alert. Security arrangements are being closely monitored in view of possible law-and-order concerns. Meanwhile, opposition parties and other political groups have also started reacting.

What next?

The question now is whether this step will give a new direction to Dalit politics or remain merely symbolic. For now, all eyes are on the event scheduled for April 14.
